Monday to shoot this assignment. If you are absent, you will still be
responsible for the shoot. You will have to set up your own makeshift studio at
home, with a sheet and a window for light. The specific days will be assigned.
A final diptych in which
one half of the diptych “interacts” with the other either by theme, movement,

Scholarship Opportunity for Seniors (FYI)
I’m very excited to let
you know that Jostens has become an ambassador for something really exciting called
the Purpose Challenge!
It’s an awesome campaign
to help high school seniors find their purpose in life, write better essays for
their college applications and apply for the chance to win $25,000 in
scholarship money.
What’s awesome is that
the Purpose Challenge is grounded in research from UC Berkeley's Greater Good
Science Center and it features a free online resource with engaging video content, reading materials and brief
written exercises – like imagining your ideal life at age 40 – to help high
schoolers better develop their sense of purpose. Their toolkit provides
step-by-step guidance on how to write a meaningful college essay and students
can then submit their completed essays in a contest to win up to $25,000!
For more info, please
check out the Purpose Challenge's website,
introductory video,
and press release, especially the endorsement of Michelle Obama’s education
initiative, Reach Higher...How cool is that?!

Assignment: Yearbook Marketing
Today you will begin creating materials for marketing. You'll learn what marketing is, how companies utilize it and how to appeal to your demographic.
1. You will research movie posters that are popular with your generation.
2. You will choose a topic which would fit the design, using the above examples as a reference.
[topics included in the yearbook range from Sports, Events, Dances, Awards, Acceptances, friendship, Academics, Arts, Admin, Teachers.ETC ETC ETC ETC ]
3. Design a movie poster in Photoshop using the same layout and fonts (as close as possible) but your words, ideas and images.
The goal? Advertise the product with something people can relate to, sell the product.
Post completed poster to your blog by Wednesday 11/22/17

Photowalk: JFKMHS
For this week's photo walk, we will be taking pictures that are "JFKMHS". Think about the yearbook and images that are featured. Each of you will be required to post FIVE images that follow RULE OF THIRDS and represent "JFKMHS" in some way. The final step to this project is to upload these images to yearbookavenue.com under the folder "Student Photographers".
These Photos can be posed or candid, as long as you are paying attention to angle of the subject matter as well as rule of thirds. FIVE photos must be posted and put into yearbookavenue for credit.

Assignment: Why Watermarks?
Question: What is a watermark? How can I add a watermark
to my photos.
Adding a visible watermark is a common way of identifying images and protecting them from unauthorized use online. Today, you're going to create an effective watermark and apply it to your digital photos or art work.
Adding a visible watermark is a common way of identifying images and protecting them from unauthorized use online. Today, you're going to create an effective watermark and apply it to your digital photos or art work.
Answer: A watermark is a visible embedded overlay on a
digital photo consisting of text, a logo, or a copyright notice. The purpose of
a watermark is to identify the work and discourage its unauthorized use. Though
a visible watermark can't prevent unauthorized use, it makes it more difficult
for those who may want to claim someone else's photo or art work as their own.
Tips for Effective Watermarking
If you are going to use a watermark, care should be taken
to ensure that the watermark is effective, not only for proving that an image
was modified, but also for educating the would-be pirates about copyright and
ownership. Ideally, the watermark should be a copyright symbol along with the
name of the owner, and the URL of the owner's web site, if applicable. This not
only conveys the message of copyright, but it gives others an opportunity to
contact the original owner of the image. Watermark placement can be a bit of a
balancing act. The watermark should be placed carefully so as not to detract
from the image too much, but you also don't want to place the watermark in a
area of solid color or a textured area where removal would be easy to conceal.
The example on this page was designed to show an extreme example of
watermarking and would be is far too distracting for a portfolio photograph. In
practice, the watermark should make up a smaller percentage of the overall
image area compared to this example.
So now that we've discussed what a watermark is and how
to make them effective, you may be wondering how to put a watermark in your
images. There are many methods for watermarking photos. We'll use Photoshop for
today's purposes. Please open the program and open the tutorial in your
Photoshop folder, watch the video in this post OR find an online tutorial that
is easier for you to follow.
POST YOUR COMPLETED WATERMARKED PHOTOGRAPH TO YOUR BLOG

Assignment: Famous Parody Painting
It's time to have some fun. Your challenge, is to PUT
YOURSELF in a famous painting.
Adaptation of Edvard Munch's, The Scream

You may replace something that was already there, or add to it, if you think the painting is just missing something. Example of both of these can be seen above, in re-creations of Edvard Munch's "The Scream", whose original I've included for your reference

You may also find, you'd like to match the painting
techniques these masters of their craft tried so hard to exemplify, see
anything odd about Mona here???
